Giving Pragmatic Help in Cooperation with the Ministry of Education
It takes about four to five hours by walk from a farm village to a city to buy necessary supplies in Cambodia. The majority of residents in this area live in a poor economic situation, and many children have neither school supplies nor even school bags; some children carry their textbooks in plastic bags on their way to school.
Since WeLoveU signed an MOU with Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (hereinafter Ministry of Education) in Cambodia in 2011, it has carried out diverse volunteer services such as providing educational facilities and installing water pumps in schools. Recently, through a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Education, WeLoveU pledged to help Mittapheap Primary School, Ondoungtrom Primary School, Boeung Khang Tboung Primary School, Laoka Primary School, and Ong maly Primary School.
WeLoveU made a plan to provide customized support by visiting each school and discussing with each school principal. Afterwards, for the month of November, WeLoveU held school supplies donation ceremonies in the five schools. On November 4, the members first visited Mittapheap Primary School and offered electric equipment expenses along with 220 sets of school supplies to the school. Sum Ratha, the Principal, said, “Thanks to the support from the WeLoveU, our school has made progress in its educational environment. I’m so happy now that the students can devote themselves to study even on a hot day or a rainy day thanks to newly installed lights and fans.”
On November 15, WeLoveU provided 490 sets of school supplies and 400 books to Ondoungtrom Primary School and Boeung Khang Tboung Primary School as the two schools didn’t have enough books for the students. On November 29, a ceremony to donate clothes and 330 sets of school supplies was held in Laoka Primary School and Ong maly Primary School. After receiving the necessary school supplies, the school children were full of smiles. In this way, WeLoveU has provided precious and heartfelt gifts to a total of 1,000 students.
The donation ceremony held in each school was attended by school staff and students, parents, Ot Vorthy (Deputy Director of Ministry of Education in the state of Kamphongthom), and Tunn Kong (Deputy Director of Ministry of Education in the state of Mondol Kiri). The press groups from SEA TV and Kampuchea Thmey Daily News covered the news of the event. Before and after the events, the schools and the Ministry of Education presented the certificates of appreciation to WeLoveU.
WeLoveU hoped their support would help the school children accomplish their dreams. Through close cooperation with the Ministry of Education, WeLoveU will exert itself to improve the educational environments in various places of Cambodia.
