Donate 120 Digital Devices for Hartford Public Schools in the U.S. for ‘Closing the Homework Gap’
On December 4, the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation of the East Coast Chapter in the United States donated 120 digital devices for Hartford Public Schools in Connecticut: 40 laptops, 30 desktop computers, and 50 webcams. It is part of the project, “Closing the Homework Gap,” which was carried out in Washington City and Newark City in September of last year.
As the COVID-19 pandemic did not seem to end, schools expanded remote classes. However, students without digital devices were unable to fully participate in the classes, and it created the homework gap among students. Before it was too late, the WeLoveU donated the digital devices to Hartford Public Schools, so that there would be no difference in the education of students, depending on whether or not they owned digital devices. For the delivery ceremony, 40 WeLoveU members and 50 high school students and their parents followed the COVID-19 safety guidelines with a distance of more than two meters from each other in front of the building of the Hartford Board of Education. Senator Richard Blumenthal, the Superintendent of Public Schools, and the person in charge of partnership with public schools attended the event and agreed on the WeLoveU’s decision for educational support.
Senator Richard Blumenthal said, “Through today’s event, many students will be able to close the gap in their homework. I would like to thank Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah for bringing happiness to Connecticut for the New Year.”
On September 15, the WeLoveU members held a webinar to introduce the project. On that day, the senator and the person in charge of partnership with public schools attended the webinar and expressed their support. In 2019, the senator sent a video message to support the WeLoveU activities at the “Save the World Global Forum” held in Korea.
Donation of COVID-19 Safety Supplies to Tova Community Health in Delaware
On December 18, the WeLoveU donated 6,000 face masks, 600 protective clothing, and 6,000 medical gloves to the Tova Community Health in New Castle, Wilmington, Delaware, U.S. Fifteen WeLoveU members and Dr. Nina Anderson, President of Tova Community Health, participated in the ceremony in a cold weather.
Dr. Nina Anderson thanked the chairwoman of the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation for donating a large amount of personal protective equipment [PPE] to the hospital. She said, “We have been treating hundreds of COVID-19 patients at the forefront of medical care. Our goal is to make sure that patients do not go to the emergency room by receiving treatment at the right time and place, and to flatten the curve of the graph for COVID-19.” She also said, “We had a hard time obtaining safety supplies in the early days of the pandemic. So we are even more grateful to the WeLoveU for their support.” On that day, the doctor said she could not welcome the members more warmly because there was a hospital staff member who was confirmed with COVID-19.
The members gave a red heart-shaped plaque of appreciation to the medical staff who were making every effort to keep citizens healthy, and Dr. Nina Anderson repeatedly expressed gratitude for the members’ consideration, with a big smile.
On May 23, 2019, Tova Community Health signed an MOU with the WeLoveU to cooperate with ending poverty and hunger, social and economic development, and humanitarian aid at the Save the World Global Forum held in Korea. On that day, Dr. Nina Anderson appeared as the speaker of the forum and emphasized the value of blood donation. She said, “If we cooperate with organizations like the WeLoveU, we can draw public attention by promoting the importance of community participation in blood donation to cure rare diseases.”
