It is a matter of course to respect Vietnamese heroic mothers
In Tam Ky, Quang Nam Province, Vietnam, there is a huge monument of about 19 meters [62 feet] in height and 117 meters [384 feet] in width on a large site of about 165,289 m2 [1,779,159 ft2]. The monument depicts a woman named Nguyen Thi Thu who lost nine sons, a son-in-law, and two grandchildren in the Vietnam War. At the back of the monument is a building that displays the lives of nearly fifty thousand women who lost their sons and grandchildren. In Vietnam, people call these women as heroic mothers and regard it as a matter of course to respect them.
Government offices are well acquainted with the heroic mothers in their jurisdiction, because they are literally great people who gave their loving children to the country. The government is paying attention and providing support to protect the livelihoods of these mothers, but the benefits are not being given to all heroic mothers due to a lack of budget.
The year before last, the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation heard from a local government office about the stories of the heroic mothers who were not able to receive support from the government, and provided living expenses and food to seven heroic mothers living in Binh Hung Hoa A, Ho Chi Minh.
One Year Support of Living Expenses for Heroic Mothers
This year too, along the recommendation of a local government office, the WeLoveU decided to provide one year support of living expense to a heroic mother living in the same neighborhood as the last time. The living expense for three months is provided once a quarter for a total of four times. The government officials thought it would be more meaningful to provide the living expense of the first quarter before the Tet Nguyen Dan 2019 (Vietnamese New Year; February 5; hereafter Tet), so the WeLoveU members visited the heroic mother’s house with a snack gift set on January 14. The visit was accompanied by the Chairman of Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Tan District and the Chairman and the Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Binh Hung Hoa A Ward.

As a beneficiary of the support, the heroic mother thanked the members for the visit. Tet, which is the biggest national holiday in Vietnam, was not far off, so she was delighted even more with the visit. During this time every year, Vietnamese people enjoy the holiday for at least nine days, and they visit their relatives, neighbors, and friends and share words of wisdom and blessing with one another. A visit ahead of a big holiday meant more than just providing living expenses. The heroic mother repeatedly thanked the members, holding onto a member’s hands.
Le Van Bay, the Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Tan District, thanked the WeLoveU for giving a helping hand to the heroic mother, and the Chairman and the Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Binh Hung Hoa A Ward, too, expressed their gratitude to the WeLoveU as they had a great time together with the heroic mother. The WeLoveU members were happy that they participated in the meaningful event.
Afterwards, the members visited the heroic mother’s house again in the first months of the second, third, and fourth quarters and delivered living expenses to her. She welcomed them at every visit with tea in beautiful teacups.
In fact, a mother deserves to be respected by everyone for her existence alone, because mothers are the only ones who give life to their children. Then, how much more respect should be given to the heroic mothers who gave to the country their children who were more valuable than their own life? That is why the government pays attention not to forget their contribution. The WeLoveU will not forget the love and sacrifice of all great mothers all around the world along with those in Vietnam.
